Repairing Active Fuel Management Engine Failures

Many General Motors engines equipped with Active Fuel Management (AFM) or Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) experience lifter failures that can cause serious engine performance problems.

Smart Turn Auto Repair provides complete AFM/DFM lifter replacement and optional system deletion to restore engine reliability.

What is AFM / DFM?

AFM and DFM systems are designed to improve fuel economy by temporarily deactivating certain cylinders during light engine load. This system relies on specialized lifters and oil control mechanisms inside the engine.

Over time, these components can fail, causing the lifter to collapse or stick.

AFM / DFM Delete Option

For some applications, we can also perform an AFM delete, which removes the cylinder deactivation system and converts the engine to full-time operation and includes reflashing the engine control module to avoid missing equipment related check engine faults.

Benefits can include:

  • Increased long-term reliability
  • Elimination of AFM-related lifter failures
  • More consistent engine operation

Our team can help determine the best repair approach based on your vehicle’s condition and your long-term goals for reliability.
